Angular Contact Bearings

Angular Contact Bearings are designed to carry heavier radial and thrust loads, but because of the open side of the outer race, thrust loads can only be taken in one direction. For this reason, angular contact bearings are usually used in pairs. If angular contacts are mounted next to each other, they must be flush ground to prevent over-preloading them when the assembly is clamped up. When this is required, the "G" suffix is used as follows: BAC-7088-G

Cages are generally inner race land-riding and fully machined from Centrifugally Cast Brass Alloy. Outer races have a reduced land on one side to allow assembly. Instead of internal clearance, Angular Contact bearings are ordered to a certain contact angle for optimum performance as follows:

Expected Loading

Suffix Con.Angle Radial
Axial
A
30 degrees Light High
B
40 degrees
None High
C
15 degrees High None
AC
25 degrees
High High

If the application is such that Angular Contact Bearings are mounted in pairs, then they should be ordered “flush ground” so that pairs may be mounted back to back, face to face or in tandem with minimal internal play. These bearings may also be ordered in preloaded pairs to specific amounts of axial preload.

Suffix Preload N (lbs)
G 0
G05 220   (50)
G1 440   (100)
G2 880   (200)

Angular Contact Bearings are sold as single units. Those with a “G” suffix are individually boxed and can be used interchangeably in pairs. Those that are preloaded to a certain value are boxed in matched pairs and the box will indicate that “Qty. 2” bearings are enclosed.
